i have a dell vostro 2510 notebook and i want to buy i video card made especially for gaming... can can handle games like gta IV , and other high end requirements... where should i start .

i currently have a nvidia geforce 8400m gs driver card.... wanting to upgrade it for playing these newer games that take a lotta requireements.... any suggestions would be nice.

Thoughts?

Heyo! I was just looking around for some recommendations for a new speaker system as my current one just dropped out on me. I've tried looking around for one but it seems like there are far too many and they all sell the same thing for different prices.
I would ideally like to hook it up to my Creative X-Fi sound card, it must be 5.1 or above and it'd be nice if they were floor-standing speakers. If you guys have any advice, I'd welcome it.

There's also some pretty standard looking-ones on ebay but they're pretty old and used as it is.

Help! my ipod 5th gen is not being recognised my windows or itunes

My ipod was fine working on windows vista, but i recently bought a brand new computer, operating system windows 7 premium 64bit. Tried most things, resetting ipod or using disk mode has no effect either.

Plugging my ipod in never got detected, not even as a storage device. So after installing the latest itunes software (itunes for windows 64bit) it still would not be detected by both windows in my computer and itunes.

in device manager though under disk drives it shows "apple ipod usb device".

under storage volumes it shows "unknown device"

and under USB controllers it shows "Apple mobile device USB driver"

I searched the internet before coming here, all i could find was uninstall every single bit of apple software, unplug the ipod then reinstall itunes etc, i tried all this but had bo success.

Obviously the ipod is fine as it works in my old pc and charges in this new one.

Thanks to all who can offer advice.

Intels silicon photonics link boasts 50gb/s transfer

Intel has announced a new silicon-based optical data connection technology that is capable of transferring data at a rate of 50Gb/s and could reach speeds well beyond that. By using a combination of transmitter/receiver chips, lasers and fiber cables, Intel says Silicon Photonics Link is fast enough to transfer a high definition movie in one second.

A transmitter chip composed of four lasers beams light into an optical modulator which encodes data onto them at 12.5Gb/s. Those four beams are then combined and sent over a single optical fiber for a total data rate of 50Gb/s. When it reaches the opposite end of the link, a receiver chip essentially reverses the process, separating the beams and converting data back to electrical signals. By adding more lasers per chip and scaling the modulator, speeds of 1Tb/s are possible.

Intel believes its integrated hybrid silicon optics solution is poised to replace today's copper wiring, which suffers from signal degradation and is said to be reaching its limits. Silicon Photonics Link is still in its very early stages, existing solely as a concept and products based on the technology won't arrive for at least three to five years.

The chipmaker says this project is separate from Light Peak, which is "an effort to bring a multi-protocol 10Gbps optical connection to Intel client platforms for nearer-term applications." Whereas Silicon Photonics research "aims to use silicon integration to bring dramatic cost reductions, reach tera-scale data rates, and bring optical communications to an even broader set of high-volume applications."

So I want to buy a netbook for school. All I want is something small and light that can browse the web (hopefully watch movies full screen), type in Word and use adobe acrobat. You know, basic stuff. I need it mostly for school and trips.
I read lots of articles and most of them say that Asus EEE Pc are the best but the reviews are a couple of months old. I also read that the Windows 7 Starter sucks big juicy balls.
Does anyone know if I can upgrade from XP to Win7 (home+) for free?
And... keep in mind, I don't have a big budget :)

Will my American PC do fine if taken to Italy?

So this August 30th I'm heading to Italy for ten months for grad school. I'd like to mail my PC over at some point, because it's simply a lot better than my laptop, and I'll be in Europe for long enough that I'd like a decent computer with me. I already have a power converter, but do I need to worry about voltage or something like that? Will it work if I just put the power plug from the PC into the converter and then into the wall?

so this was just announced officially, now THIS is the kind of device ive been waiting on, with stuff like social networking, xbx live, zune and the new platform it should give the iphone and blackberries a run for their money.

after windows 7 and being the software giants they are im sure the OS and user experience will be good, but i rather see it in action and i specially wanna see the hardware goods before i make a total jump on this, anyone else thinking about giving these a try?

I just got my shiny new GoPro HD Hero video camera today. So much fun to fuck around with. I also have a vid where I mounted it to the hood of my Dads car while we went to burger king but most of it is pretty shaky because I didn't tighten the mount enough.

3G speeds in your area

I'm just curious at what 3g Speeds everyone gets with their phones, what general area you are and what carrier you are with. If I'm extremely lucky, I'll get roughly 512k down/up. But I usually get anywhere between 56k and 512k down/up. I have T-mobile as a carrier and am in Lexington, Ky. I've always thought that the 3G speeds were suppose to be faster than this, but I wanted to compare with others. There are only 2 towns in the state of Kentucky that have 3G.. the rest are GSM and Edge if you are lucky. GSM and Edge speeds are pathetic. T-Mobile has stated that they are working on their HSPA+ upgrade (4g speeds), but their 3G barely works. I have noticed that if I go to another 3G area, like Cincinnati, the speeds vastly improve. I may just be in a crappy town for 3G. What are your speeds?
